Tribal drums filled the area and Tee’s phone vibrated next to her hand. She stuffed it between the stack of towels at her elbow. It was Myka and she would not be bothered on her spa day. Several of the women including Fre and Sint had simply turned their cells off.

Marree looked over at her. “You’re being summoned,” she said in a singsong voice.

“Shut up, Marree. Once Jamison discovers you aren’t where you’re supposed to be, I have no doubt he will blow your phone up trying to find you,” Tee shot back.

“First he’ll have to figure out I’m not there, won’t he?” Marree wiggled and sunk lower in her seat.

All the chairs lining both walls in the nail shop were full of shifter women. A manicurist lifted Tee’s foot from the water and patted her limb with a towel.

“Hot rock?” The woman gazed up at her expectantly.

“Sure.” Tee shrugged.

The lady rose and walked to a small heater at the end of the room. She grabbed a towel and reached into the top of the apparatus. Carefully she carried two small stones wrapped in terrycloth. She resumed her seat and placed the bundle at the back of the tub beneath Tee. The woman took hold of Tee’s calf and reached for a rock with a washcloth. Tee caught a glimpse of a smooth black stone before it was quickly covered and placed against her ankle.

Warmth flowed into her skin and a moan escaped through Tee’s lips. The women seated around her snickered. Tee closed her eyes and waved a hand, dismissing them as the nail tech slowly rubbed the rock up and down her limb. The chair she sat in began to rumble and roll across her shoulders poking her at various pressure points in her back.

Sint called across the room to Fre. “You’re a flipping genius, Fre. Getting us all together was a great idea. This is exactly what I needed, a day where I can step back from the responsibilities of my family to enjoy myself. Merci.”

Fre’s lyrical voice filled the room. “It was nothing. Rhys is footing the bill.” She giggled.

“I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the men woke up and realized we were gone and they had kiddies to take care of.” Nix burst out in boisterous laughter.

“They’re probably pawning the babies off on each other.” Tee opened her eyes.

“Speaking of babies. It would be nice if I could have a few grandchildren,” Tee’s mother, Loretta, interjected.

“You have Karma,” Tee countered.

“I do and that child there is my heart but I would really like two or three more. I’m open to getting them any way I can whether they come by Marree or you, Gertrudis. I expect another grandchild soon.” Loretta pressed her lips together in a firm line.

“Well then, the next year should be interesting.” Nix chuckled “Loretta, leave them children be. Babies will come, be patient,” Sint spoke up.

“Hush, Sint, you have a bushel of grandbabies,” Loretta huffed.
